About
BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS
What is BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS?
BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS is a Location Based Service for your BlackBerry mobile
phone that uses GPS to give you accurate yardages on the golf
course. By providing a “bird’s eye view” of each hole, BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS shows your exact location on an interactive, fully
viewable golf course map. Our maps display all of the course
elements- tee boxes, fairways, hazards, cart paths and greens, to
provide you with precise distances to the front, center and back of
the green.
By touching the
screen on any point on a course map, you can easily locate the
distance to any hazard or find your ideal lay-up position.
BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS automatically zooms in as you approach the green to
display a more detailed digital map view of the hole.
To improve
your golf score, download BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS to help you choose
the right club for the right distance… every time!.

Is
BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS easy to use?
Yes. With just a
few keystrokes or touches on your BlackBerry device screen you can see where you are
on the course and view accurate yardage measurements to the Front,
Center and Back of the green or determine any lay-up or hazard
position.

What does BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS do for me?
BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS's primary
function is to help you choose the right club. How often has your
approach landed short of the green, rolled into the water or carried
into the fairway bunker that you didn't think you could reach?
BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS maps are
expertly created and digitized from satellite and aerial imagery. Unlike the
drawings you see on your paper scorecard, these maps accurately
capture the exact geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) of
every point on the course. BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS gives you a yardage reading to
the green that is often more accurate than the markers on your
course.

How will BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS improve my game?
Club pros say that
mid-handicap golfers choose the wrong club an average of 15 times
per round that can cost a golfer as many as 10 strokes per round.
BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS gives you the tools to help you choose the best club for
each shot.

How BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS use GPS?
Using at least four
GPS satellites, your phone’s GPS receiver and our maps, BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS
calculates where you are on the golf course and how far away you are
from the green.

What does the USGA say about using GPS?
The United States
Golf Association (USGA) and The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St.
Andrews (The R&A) have sanctioned the use of distance measuring
devices such as GPS receivers and laser rangefinders effective
January 1, 2006.
The new decision
(14-3/0.5) states "A Committee may establish a Local Rule
allowing players to use devices that measure distance only. However,
the use of devices that gauge or measure other conditions that might
affect a player’s play (e.g., wind or gradient) is not permitted. In
the absence of such a Local Rule, the use of a distance-measuring
device would be contrary to Rule 14-3."

How accurate are the BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS maps?
BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS maps
are drawn from satellite and aerial imagery and are geo-referenced
to be within approximately one yard of their actual geographical
position. Most of the imagery used for BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS maps is less than
five years old when the map is drawn. However, any golfer knows that
courses periodically change - for example, greens or tees are moved
or bunkers are added. If you feel that the course map does not
accurately reflect the current state of your course, send an email
to
support@golfdigestgps.com describing the inaccuracies and we will
work to make corrections as quickly as possible.

How are the BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS Course maps created?
Professional
mapmakers create all BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS Course Maps from
satellite and aerial imagery. All of the imagery we use is
geo-referenced and orthorectified to assure map accuracy, unlike
maps made from online map display sites. We do not ask our customers
to map any courses or provide any course data.
We only ask that our customers contact us when a course element is
found to be inaccurate due to a course change, i.e.: tee boxes or
bunkers have been moved by the course. at

Using BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS
What is a Green Only Map?
We provide map
data to a host of dedicated GPS devices as well as to various mobile
applications that are available across multiple wireless carriers
and application storefronts via multiple
application software versions. We therefore offer two different
kinds of map data- Green Only, often referred to as Front, Center &
Back (FCB) or Fully Viewable course maps.
If your course is
presented as a Green Only course, rest assured your FCB distances
are accurate and precise. If you should want to have the Green Only
course mapped as a Fully Viewable course, simply return to the
Course Selection screen within the application and select “Request
Map”. We will produce a Full map within 10-14 days, usually sooner.

How do I choose a course?
You can choose to search for a specific course by selecting one of
three search options within the Course Selection screen: “City and
State”, “Nearby”, which Blackberry GolfDigest GPS selects and
displays those courses nearest your current location or “Search” to
find any course by name or other parameter. When using the “Search”
option, its best to keep the name of the course as brief as
possible. For example, if you are searching for “Patterson Country
Club”, simply type “Patt” in the search text field and a list of
courses will be displayed.

Why are some courses not mapped at all or
not found?
We
have course information, or metadata, for over 20,000 courses
worldwide with over 15,000 courses mapped to-date. If a course is
not mapped and we have the metadata, we can typically map the course
within 10-14 days. If, however, we do not have the metadata, we will
need to locate the course and make sure that there is accurate and
up-to-date imagery available. Often the reason that we can’t map a
course is because this satellite or aerial imagery is not available.
When we receive multiple requests for courses such as these, we will
use land based GIS/GPS systems and other methods to map the course.

What do I do at the start of a round?
Once you have
chosen a course, BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS will automatically take you
to the first hole. When you are at the tee, BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS
will provide the yardage for the initial distance to the front,
center and back (FCB) of the green and also allow you to use the
“cross hair”, found on every course map screen, to determine the
distance to any hazard or lay-up.
What do I do for shots after teeing off?
Once
you reach the location of your ball, you simply select “Refresh”
found in the “Menu” to update your position. You can again select or
touch any point on the screen and the cross hair will move to that
spot and update your Layup/Hazard distance. To find your distance
from that spot to the Front, Center & Back (FCB) simply press your
screen or, from the Menu, select “Mark Layup/Hazard”. Selecting
“Remove Layup/Hazard” will remove the Layup/Hazard distance and
change the FCB distances to measure from your current position.

Common Issues
I
can’t find the course I want to play?
BlackBerry
GolfDigest GPS offers thousands of digital golf course maps and . We
we’re adding new courses all the time. If you cannot find a course
map, simply email us at
support@golfdigestgps.com with the name of the course
and its address. If the appropriate imagery is available, we
typically map new courses and have them available within 10-14 days,
usually sooner. If you would like to search our existing map
database, please click so check back in the future. Search our

BlackBerry GolfDigest GPS isn’t giving me accurate distances?
The most common
reason for inaccurate distances is that the course has been modified
and our map does not reflect the changes. Simply email us at
support@golfdigestgps.com with the name of the course
and the hole number where you experienced the discrepancy and we’ll
update the course.
It is also
possible, that at times, the satellites which communicate with your
BlackBerry device’s GPS chipset are not available. This can be due to
the time of day or the satellites’ positions relative to the horizon
and your location on the golf course. However, this typically does
not last long and is rarely an issue.
